Journalists And Political Offices Targets of Anarchist Makeshift Bomb & Arson Attacks

Shortly before dawn on Saturday, Molotov bombs were thrown at the offices of the New Democracy party in the districts of  Argyroupoli and in Glyfada, causing minor damages. This was followed by two arson attacks at ATM machines at two branches of Eurobank (in Kaisariani and on Ethnikis Antistaseos). Just a few minutes later, makeshift bombs exploded at another office of the New Democracy party in Kypseli. But the attacks did not stop there, at 4:24 am bricks were thrown at the offices of PASOK in Glyfada causing small damages.

Later on in the day the police began looking for those responsible of detonating makeshift bombs at the homes of five journalists in Athens on Friday.

An anarchist group calling itself “Lovers of Lawlessness” claimed responsibility for Friday’s attacks. In a statement which was posted on a popular leftist website the anarchist group said that the “main managers of the oppressing state designs, manipulating society accordingly.”They said the media are spokespersons for and main support of the state system and they spread “hypocritical demagogy.” The anarchists claim their attacks are part of their struggle for the rights of the depressed. (????????)  The statement reads that the role of the media in the new conditions is rising, but they have ceased to be impartial judges and instead of maintaining the balance between the society and the political system, they are manipulating social matters and have become a major state repressive machine.

Activism by far-left groups appears to be on the rise, on Thursday, about 50 anti-authoritarians entered the private radio station Real FM (owned by Nikos Hatzinikolaou) and demanded that a recording be played expressing solidarity with hundreds of squatters evicted from the illegally occupied Villa Amalia. Parallel to this, a group of men also marched into a public radio station in Thessaloniki with the same demand.
