YouTube Takes Down Christmas Video From Golden Dawn

Greek nationalist party, Golden Dawn, apparently posted a Christmas video with a nostalgic look at Athens, wishing "Merry Christmas" to its supporters and to its non-supporters Greeks, on their website, but YouTube took it down for reasons of "hate speech".

Ridiculous thinking really... the video is not offensive at all. It simply shows two sides to Athens. The Athens of bygone years and the Athens of today, and believe us they are two different images and a strong wake-up call to anyone who refuses to look at the truth. The song is not offensive either, it is a classic tune of the 30s, and the text is a simple Christmas wish from this political party to its supporters.

We are guessing that leftist groups probably complained about this gesture, and presto the video was taken down. It was later uploaded on other servers and we have also seen it uploaded on YouTube again under a false alias. Another reason that makes us believe that Leftist trolls complained about it is because GD has been staging many food drives and was apparently busy before the Christmas season with many campaigns that helped hundreds of less fortunate families that have been suffering from this economic crisis. We also learn that some of its parliamentarians also donated their salaries for this very cause. Finally we also read on some blogs that leftist groups were attacking these donation campaigns and staging protests against this, but again we cannot confirm this and because we cannot confirm this (via a video of some sort) we cannot say it with certainty. But what we are certain of is that they probably complained about the Christmas video because we highly doubt that YouTube even noticed it until they did.

And the only reason we blame the left for this is because they obviously have staged a war against the nationalist party and this is evident on every front. But we here at HellasFrappe find this completely undemocratic and demand that this prejudice against Golden Dawn, or any other party with a difference of opinion against the Left, stop here and now. GD was voted into the Greek parliament by more than half a million people and although this is hard for many in the Left to stomach it is a reality. Their actions to block, limit and stop GD from even wishing their supporters a Merry Christmas is undemocratic and does not do our political system any justice.

In fact our opinion here at HellasFrappe is that this is leftist influence in Greek political, social and economic life is working on overdrive. Greece did not begin with the leftist Polytechnic school uprising and we do not see anyone being offended when they show people lighting up in flames from Molotov bombs. We do not see any videos being banned with people expressing their hate for politicians, or other state authorities. Why so much hate against this one particular party?

For God's sake, there was a democracy before the junta, (good or bad) and we have a long-standing history that stems thousands of years and that is based on democracy. Hell... we invented the damn word!  There is nothing democratic in limiting the voices of people who have the support of hundreds of thousands of Greeks, or who go against leftist views. We do not all agree with leftist progressive views and they have no right to shove it down our throats. There is nothing wrong or undemocratic in saying that either.

IF the Left has a platform to express its ideologies in the Greek parliament, then why can't anyone else do the same. Is this or is this not a democracy?

They better get their act together, and quick. By continually hammering down on any rightest view, or on Golden Dawn -which they obviously loathe- then the left in Greece is just exposing how undemocratic it really is and we fear that sooner or later it will get isolated because when push comes to shove, and certain values and principles or simple things like Christmas wishes cannot be expressed... then it becomes tyranny.
