According to an article in "TO VIMA" authorities discovered the body of a 34-year-old woman on Thursday in the northern area of Xanthi who had apparently been raped, stabbed and burned alive. The newspaper said that the young woman had returned from her home in Thessoloniki to the northern Greek town of Xanthi, so that she could spend the Christmas holidays with her family.
The story is even more tragic. The body of the young girl was discovered by her own father and brother, who thought they were extinguishing the flames that engulfed the two motorbikes around the girl, only to discover that their own sibling was stuck between the two bikes that were parked outside their home.
In a separate report on to ProtoThema it was stated that neighbours heard the girl's cries and discerned a human silhouette amidst the flames.
Police officials believe that at least two assailants were involved in this heinous crime as it would have been difficult for one man to hold a motorcycle and drain petrol. Quoting its sources, ProtoThema said that there was clear evidence of rape on the dead woman but they instead questioned the knife wounds. Their report also notes that the woman was probably unconscious when her ruthless killer or killers doused her with petrol from the parked motorbikes and set her ablaze.
