Police Officials Crack Illegal Fuel Trade Case
A major illegal fuel trade case was reportedly uncovered by the financial crimes police after an investigation involving phone-tapping and evidence gathering that led to several organised gangs, mostly active in the western Attica region, it was announced on Monday.
A police operation was in progress on Monday morning for the arrest of at least 16 individuals involved. A total of eight people are already in police custody, among them three individuals arrested for similar cases in the past. Based on the evidence collected during the past year since the investigation was launched, the unpaid tariffs and taxes to the state as a result of the gang's illegal transactions are estimated at four million euros.
