Greek-flagged oil tanker Aegean Horizon Set Free By Nigerians

Following coordinated efforts made by the Greek Foreign Ministry, and numerous phone calls by Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos to his Nigerian counterpart, combined with a letter by the President of the Hellenic Republic to the Nigerian President, the Greek-flagged oil tanker Aegean Horizon, was finally set free and is now on course for its destination.

The Greek ship had been detained since November 13, by Nigerian authorities.

After the ship was released, Avramopoulos spoke with the captain of the ship Ilias Kanellopoulos to find out about the health and welfare of the crew, but at the same time convey his best wishes.

The ship is now on its way to Rotterdam.
