The noose around the case against the former governor of Proton Bank Lavrentis Lavrentiadis, looks like it is tightening more and more everyday. Reports in Athens claim that another associate of the one time powerful businessman has been remanded in custody after she testified on heavy charges in connection to Proton Bank's bad loans to Lavrentiadis' privately-owned companies.
The reports said that the defendant, a former high-ranking official in the Bank's Credit Committee, gave herself in several days ago as an arrest warrant had been issued by authorities for her involvement in the Proton Bank scandal.
The case relates to bad loans of 701 million euros that Proton Bank made available to main defendant Lavrentiadis' companies. In addition to Lavrentiadis, also remanded in custody are three other defendants, members of Proton's board of directors.
Apparently more arrests are pending, seeing as another close associate of Lavrentiadis, or Mr. Petros Kyriakidis, is still wanted by police.
