Don't worry, the title is totally correct.
A few weeks ago, I had the luck to receive a message on Facebook from an old classmate. I hardly remember her name, actually I was hardly remember my age of 12 in general (I just now realized that we are talking about for more than 20 years ago!) Well, at that age we were only flirting and pretending we were good students, nothing special to remember ( especially after all these years! )
The Family
After recovering from the flashback we set a date to meet again. Today she is married and happy with the cutest girl I‘ve ever seen and I m single unable to decide what to think: “thank God I don’t have kids to raise with this crisis” or “will I ever be able to have a family with all this pressure?” Well, this meeting totally changed me.
For my surprise I saw my friend calm, happy and fulfilled talking about her dream to move out of Athens, reside in Ikaria and start her own business in handmade silver/ gold jewelry!
After a while her husband joined the discussion and we couldn’t do without get into “the crisis” subject. I had in front of me a very loving couple, standing united, very matured and very optimistic.
The Values
Suddenly her husband said “We‘ve been spoiled most of us, as kids, so now it is difficult to change our lives. Unlike my daughter who will be raised with the most needed but she already knows, even though she is only 3 years old, to respect the environment, to respect life and consider humanity united in peace. These elements are helping her to become more creative day by day. And you know something?” he continued “we can’t leave ALL from Greece. People of Science, Medicine, Arts etc must stay here along with the working class, we can’t leave ALL!”
The Dream
Most of the Greeks are well educated and informed. The previous conversation helped me to realize and see that day by day dozens of success stories are born in Greece. Blogs, farms, artists, products, technology, ideas, thoughts, smiles! Dozens of these!
Greeks are residing to the villages bringing new ideas from the cities or going back to their parents saving money in order to create a small working room at the backyard but they are still creating, still inventing, they are still dreaming and looking forward. They are still investing in Greece. Still promoting their work, still looking for new partnerships, working alone or in small groups, helping each other, with or without money, they fight back the crisis.
They (still) have a dream.
This is the upcoming Greece.
The new generation of Greeks bringing a totally respected attitude and culture.
