After Negative Reactions Papandreou Cancels Toronto Event & Rushes To Greece

Sometimes miracles can indeed happen. Earlier in the week HellasFrappe posted the above picture on its facebook wall calling out to Toronto Greeks to protest against George Papandreou's appearance at a lavish function that was scheduled to be held in their city and that would feature the former PM as one of the star speakers.

HellasFrappe, which was simply helping other Greek activists who were already making this issue go viral all over the Internet, witnessed something amazing once it posted the photo and the relevant info. There was a sharp and almost quick reaction by our Diaspora brothers and sisters all over the world. They reacted strongly against Papandreou's decision to appear at this event because it was on the same day that the hardest austerity measures would be voted on in the Greek Parliament as a result of the decisions that his PASOK government adopted over 2 years ago.

The reactions must of been strong, because Papandreou decided to cancel his appearance at the gala, where he was sheduled to speak about the European crisis (how ironic ... he started it), and he instead decided to return to Greece and participate in the vote.

Here is the link to the event with the address and the time.

See what happens when we all work together my fellow Hellenes?

Editor's Note - Last week, Papandreou asked the Greek Parliament to approve another seven day absence so that he can continue with his "teachings" as a Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School, as well as travel around the world playing the role of public speaker. And we ask... is he getting paid for just being a Greek MP? He has hardly been in Greece over the last few months, and has rather set up home in the US. So why are we paying this man? How does he justify what he earns if he is not here. One more question... Why is it that he is never here when the going gets rough? Meaning - Papandreou is somehow always abroad when big political scandals make headlines in the news and which in most cases include his name. Coincidence? Inquiring minds really want to know. If any of our readers know, please drop us a line in our comment box because we are totally clueless. (lol)
