One of the most talked about subjects in local coffee shops these days, at the supermarket, and at every single dinner table is the tragic rise in crime. Only two years ago the Greek news reported about 15 robberies a month, while today this has turned into two burglaries every night. And this is just in Attica alone! Most are convinced that this is because of the sudden flood of foreign illegal immigrants in our country, while others believe that it is because of a deepening recession.
Today, the new wave of thieves do not use common equipment to brake into homes anymore, they now use other more dangerous and deadly weapons such as Kalashnikov guns, butcher knives, and other such weapons.
According to reports about 500 AK-47 Kalashnikovs are said to be found in the hands of "hard" foreign criminals who are spreading chaos and fear all over the Attica region at the moment. A frightening thought indeed. But what is even more terrifying is that even police officials try to avoid clashing with these criminals, for obvious reasons.
As for the victims... the list is endless.
