PASOK leader Evangelos Venizelos accused New Democracy (ND) leader Antonis Samaras of trying to avoid the television debate among the political leaders, in what he described as "unprecedented behaviour". He noted that for the first time a fundamental procedure of democracy is being undermined, and charged that Samaras "appears not to want any dialogue".
Editor's Note - Mr. Venizelos... when you address Parliament and have 5 minutes to stake your case, you usually take up 30 minutes... and basically say nothing. Why would someone want to hold a debate with you with a stream of "puppet" reporters that totally support your political party and hear you say "nothing? Secondly... undermining democracy? I don't remember ancient Hellenes getting up on podiums and being questioned by journalists on what they are planning to do if elected. Debates were introduced in England and in the US. Finally... if you really want to be challenged... then why not have a debate with the people...!!!
