Peponis And Mouzakitis Open The File On The Mytileneos Company

Greece is a corporate gangsters paradise. The more money you make, the more subsidies you receive from the EU, the more the "system" takes a liking to you. And get this... and if you are lucky (or simply chummy chummy with someone in the government who can pull a few strings) then also expect to never pay taxes and what's more you can also get your debts written off as well! Well... at least that is how things ran for decades until Public Prosecutors Gregory Peponis and Spyros Mouzakitis decided to do what they were obligated to do... their jobs!

Public Prosecutor Gregory Peponis ordered a preliminary investigation earlier in the week against the "Hellenic Aluminium Company", a subsidiary of the Mytileneos Group of Companies,  following an article in the "Isotimia" financial journal claiming that it owes tens of millions to the state's electricity company (DEH). A report on olympia.gr said that the subsidiary owns a total of almost 110 million euros (interest included).

The Finance Prosecutor is also planning to place the Mytileneos Company's debts under the microscope, with a focus on possible debts to other state owned utility companies as well. At the same time, the prosecution will also check to see if the EU subsidies received by the Mytileneos Group of Companies (said to reach some 15 million euros) were actually used to construct a new production facility as indicated. Helping Peponis in his work will be none other than Deputy Public Prosecutor Spyros Mouzakitis.

The scandal also made headlines in a news report on ALPHA channel, but in this report the  Mytileneos Group of Companies was accused of owing 89 million euros. No one knows the exact sum, but what is certain is that "invincible hands" have helped the company get away with not paying their dues to the state, and these hands belong to the elite in our parliament (as revealed by a member of DEH).

And to think... common people who owe the government one hundred, or one thousand euros are having their bank deposits held. The saga for the poorer masses continues. The rich in Greece continue to get richer, and the poor continue to get poorer.
