The Greek branch of Doctors of the World said on Monday that the Athens water company, EYDAP, has cut off the organization’s water supply. The non-governmental organization that provides medical care to people in war-torn countries but more recently has focused its efforts at home, claimed said it delayed paying its latest water bill because it had not yet received its allocation of money from the European Refugee Fund. Furthermore the organization said that EYDAP refused to make allowances and as a result, the building that houses its offices, a hostel and its medical center, where many uninsured Greeks receive treatment, has been left without running water. The Doctors of the World also noted that some 70 people, including 20 minors, are housed at the hostel and 100 to 150 patients are treated each day at the medical center.
