Everyday on hellasfrappe we search for interesting stories that we feel need to be published. One such story caught our attention this morning. It claims that psychological research has found that religious people feel great about themselves, with a tendency toward higher social self-esteem and better psychological adjustment than non-believers, but a new study published in Psychological Science, a journal of the Association for Psychological Science, finds that this is only true in countries that put a high value on religion. The new results from the second study fascinated us. It actually made us crack up. They actually collected a team of scientists to research what we and many other nations have known for years...!
Hellenes have for centuries maintained a psychological balance on things for one main reason. Through times of war, oppression and famine, the people of this nation never bowed to misery and we believe that one of the reasons for this is because their strength stems from their respect to their homeland (Patris), their religion (Thriskeia) and the family (oikogenia). This modest 18th century slogan might have once been used as a tool of inspiration when our ancestors were fighting to gain Independence from Ottoman rule, but it is the most characteristic portrait of this land and its people.
These three values were nurtured at home and during our schooling. They are the inspirational phrase that inspires our soldiers. They tingle our hearts and our eyes swell when someone says them with sincerity and they are the reason why Hellas still exists.
It is no wonder thereafter why Hellenes everywhere still abide by this slogan and this is probably the reason why Henry Kissinger once said that "the Greek people are anarchic and difficult to tame. For this reason we must strike deep into their cultural roots: Perhaps then we can force them to conform. I mean, of course, to strike at their language, their religion, their cultural and historical reserves, so that we can neutralize their ability to develop, to distinguish themselves, or to prevail; thereby removing them as an obstacle to our strategically vital plans in the Balkans, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East."
Friends, not all Hellenes are of Orthodox faith, some are Catholic, some are Jewish, some are Muslim and some are even atheist, but they hold their beliefs, their homeland and their family in high regard. The same holds true for so many other nations. As long as we as a people know that, respect it and maintain it... we should not be afraid of what an 89 year war monger says...
The new world order can strike all it wants, those who have some balance will never bow to this new dogma. Our ideals and our values will never be compromised and therefore our culture and history will never be threatened and this applies for every nation, not just ours.
Henry Kissinger might believe that this is how they can "neutralize us" as a people, and we say this is pure hogwash! Someone should examine his psychological state instead and inform him that the more they attack our homeland, the more they strike at our religion and the more they bombard our family the more determined we will become to resist.
Why? Simple... because Hellenes did not even bow to the Olympian Gods... when we addressed them we stood tall and proud!
