Kenteris and Thanou cleared of all charges

Costa Kenteris and Katerina Thanou, two of Greece’s sprinters, were apparently acquitted today from an Athens appeals court on charges of faking a motorcycle crash and “purposely missing” a doping test on the eve of the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, but they found their coach, Christos Tzekos, guilty of possession and storage of illegal substances and slapped him a 12-month suspended prison sentence. Thanou and Kenteris were found guilty of perjury in May over this scandal – which some may recall was a major embarrassment to Greece at the time which was a host nation to the games.
