Papachristou has struck gold for the second time, after winning the 2009 event, too. This time the Greek champion won the triple jump with her best effort at 14.40 meters on Friday. Then on Saturday, Tsakonas, who had sailed through the qualifying heats and the semifinals, won the final with a new national record for the Under-23 category. The 21-year-old covered the distance in 20.56 seconds.

Greek athletics can finally look to the future with hope for success after two of its young athletes collected gold medals at the European Under-23 Championship in Ostrava. Voula Papachristou (triple jump) and Lykourgos Tsakonas (200 metres) finished on top to take Greece’s medal collection to 19 in the eight versions of the championship to date.
